BanThisURL is a site written by a number of Australian technology journalists.
It addresses the aspects of digital censorship that aren’t being covered properly (or in too little detail) by the mainstream press.
BanThisURL relies on donations to survive. In the wake of the financial crisis, one of our journalists has lost his full time job.
With the internet quickly becoming the main repository for human knowledge, the implications of digital censorship are graver than traditional censorship. We aim to provide an insight into it by examining its societal, technological, political and philosophical impacts to let you know the how, why and everything else of the issue.
If you’re an international visitor, you should be concerned too. The results of Australian censorship may be cited by other countries to enact similar practices overseas. We ask that you not be complacent and let people know about the issue. To that end, if you’d like to support our efforts, we ask you to spread the word about this site, and about the issue at hand — an alarming amount of people do not understand or know about what is being proposed.
